Plumbing / Fire Protection Project Engineer

At dbHMS, Plumbing / Fire Protection Project Engineers execute the design of plumbing systems involved in building construction projects.  Project Engineers must be able to perform their own drafting, calculations and design, supervise the work of CAD Drafters and Junior Engineers, and follow the direction of Senior Engineers on larger projects.  Previous experience in designing plumbing building systems is required.


  • Apply knowledge of domestic water, storm, waste vent, and related systems to the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for buildings
  • Apply knowledge of building codes and industry standards
  • Edit project specifications in the MasterSpec® 1995 and 2004 formats
  • Attend external meetings to obtain design input information and ensure that all facets of the project are being correctly coordinated
  • Write reports, narratives and studies
  • Survey existing buildings and identify plumbing systems and components
  • Review submittals of equipment for compliance with the contract documents
  • Respond to contractor questions during construction
  • Observe and report upon mechanical construction work in progress


  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Current CAD skills
  • Average experience range is 3 - 7 years
  • E.I.T. or P.E. preferred 


  • Read and understand construction documents, floor plans, specifications, and equipment details
  • Ability to multi-task by working on multiple overlapping projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to maintain professional, polite and prompt communication
  • Motivated self-starter and fast learner committed to learning on the job and personal self-development


  • Ability to operate Revit™ BIM software
  • Specialty certifications such as CEM, CPD, CFPS
  • LEED GA or LEED AP with specialty
