The Downtown Market is a mixed-use facility located on an old brownfield site in a historic neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Market features a 24-vendor market hall, an outdoor farmers' market shed, rentable incubator kitchens, rooftop greenhouses, meeting rooms, offices, eateries, and the nation’s first demonstration kitchen for kids.

The design team incorporated energy-efficient equipment and innovative sustainable features such as a green roof, living walls, geothermal wells, and rain gardens. dbHMS performed Commissioning services to ensure that the HVAC, renewable energy, lighting systems and their associated controls met the Owner’s Project requirements and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED©) guidelines for commissioning. The project received LEED© Core and Shell v2009 Gold level certification.
