This state-of-the-art facility combines traditional library services with cutting edge technology. The Albany Park Branch is the first of the Chicago Public Libraries to include a self-checkout station and is one of six new library locations with YOUmedia digital programming for teens. The library was developed based on a prototypical design and includes book stacks, reading areas, study rooms, a computer media room, a community room, administrative offices and work areas, as well as a green roof.

BLACK ENSEMBLE THEATER

The Black Ensemble Theater is a privately funded new construction project built to provide the organization with a modern and elegant place for art. The 49,000 sq. ft. complex has a 300 seat main stage theater with a 150 seat black box studio, multiple lobbies, entertaining areas, administration offices, music rooms, dressing rooms, a green roof, and an outdoor patio. Additionally, the facility includes 19 enclosed parking spaces and a design shop. 

CHICAGO THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO

The new Chicago Theological Seminary for the University of Chicago is a four-story building that includes administration offices, classrooms, a chapel, a library, and a dining space. Additionally, the project included state-of-the-art audio visual technologies for interactive student education. The University of Chicago Guide for Professional Services required energy modeling, which, combined with a cost analysis, guided the team in optimizing design and material efficiencies, while maintaining the architect’s design intent. Photovoltaics were used to provide an alternate energy source to the building. 

CHINATOWN BRANCH CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

Located on a prominent site in the Chinatown neighborhood of Chicago, the new 16,000 sq. ft. Chinatown Branch Library aims to create a new civic, educational and social hub for the surrounding community, providing a place of discovery and learning in the new digital age. The state-of-the-art library offers a unique blend of traditional library services and the cutting edge technology featured in 21st century libraries, as well as striking modern architecture and community specific design features.  The library has a large central space for community gathering and a large, a glass-enclosed community room for events and programs and two meeting rooms for small group work. It features a large reading room, a YOUmedia digital media space for teens, an expanded community room, children's reading room, meeting space for community use, state of the art technology, Wi-Fi, and self-checkout stations.

The new, one-story 7,085 sq. ft. shelter is a state-of-the-art facility comprised of open office, cage-free cat areas, adoption areas, and support spaces. It is organized around a central landscaped courtyard for maximum daylight and access for all shelter uses—visually and physically—to nature. It features low-VOC, recycled and regional content finishes, high-albedo paving and roofing, and native landscaping. It also boasts a very thorough and well-designed list of energy-saving and energy-producing features through the careful integration of building systems.

POETRY FOUNDATION

The Poetry Foundation is a Chicago-based, non-profit organization that aims to promote poetry in today’s culture through hosting seminars, readings, exhibitions and provides several awards for poets and their work. The Poetry Foundation’s new public building in Chicago encompasses all of these aspects offering an exhibition gallery, library space, performance space, and a garden area.

WRITERS THEATRE

Writers Theatre has been captivating Chicagoland audiences for over 20 years with sold-out performances, serving approximately 35,000 patrons each season. The theater will be moving into a new permanent home located in Glencoe, Illinois. The building will not only house its existing program, but provide an opportunity for creativity and growth.
